The romantic manga The Demon King Is Way Too Overprotective by Senri Miko follows high school student Seina, who is juggling school, friendships, and paying the rent, leaving her with no breathing room. But when she nearly falls prey to a scammer and loses her hard-earned money, things go from bad to worse. Just when it seems like it is going to hit rock bottom, a stranger swoops in, claiming he is the demon king who's crossed dimensions just to be with her. Why? Because, according to him, Seina is the reincarnation of his lost love! Skeptical but unable to shake him off, Seina finds herself with a new, otherworldly roommate who’s hell-bent on keeping her safe, whether she wants his protection or not. What’s a girl to do when her biggest problem suddenly becomes a supernatural—and superhot—roommate? (The Demon King is Way Too Overprotective! | Seven Seas Entertainment 2024)
Hi everyone, I'm back for another review, and this time it is a manga! Lately, I've been on the male yandere Reddit and have been looking for... Pathetic yandere males. I think after Tamon, I have realised that they have a spot in my heart. Anyway, like I do in any review, I discovered this a week ago and completed it in two days. I would say that this did not wow me as much, but if you have nothing to read, this is a tame one. I know some of you might be thinking, "A male yandere again!?" I promise I will try to find some action or ones that do not involve yandere! If you guys want to give me suggestions, I'll feel free to read them in my free time. My boyfriend has recently told me about Patron of Villains, and I might give that a go soon, too.
Now let's get into the review. This story is 11 chapters long and was released around 2023. The art style overall is quite nice. I like the way Demon King is drawn, and it has stupid pointed ears. I can't say much about the character's design, though, as nothing is interesting about a slice-of-life high school student. The overall storyline, though, is quite calming and not quite impactful, but it gets interesting at the end, with her childhood friend being the reason she died. I would say it's quite boring with its plot. It is refreshing, though, reading it after all the trash I've been consuming. The character traits I would say are not that memorable, but I really liked her childhood friend. He was like this nice guy, but was fairly eerie when his face was much less friendly and more aggravated when hanging out with the demon king. (One character I really love and is not related to this manga is Qi Rong from TGCF, which I might review in Autumn.) Anyways I believe her childhood friend kind of carried when it came to the plot because the fact that he would murder the female lead due to fate was interesting.
Anyway, this manga is quite tame, if you want to give it a read. It is not very yandere coded, like the title, the male lead is overprotective, but not to the point of cages and all that, but he will murder. Like, there was one scene where he wanted to murder a group of guys for harassing Seina. What was funny, though, was that since Seina rejected the idea of murder, he spawned cats instead to distract them. I feel like they wouldn't just stop harassing because of the cats, but I guess for comedic purposes it suits it. Overall, I give this:
6/10
Not bad to the point of being trash, but just very average and honestly could've added more elements or something that made it interesting, but also the ending was pretty alright. So yeah, if you are bored, you should give this a read.
